If you are planning a trip to Seattle anytime soon then make sure you also take a trip to Safeco Field. This park has a reputation as a teriffic setting for baseball. You get a great view of Seattles skyline and also get to enjoy fantastic sunsets over Pugent Sound.
Located in downtown Seattle, Safeco Field (as the Seattle Mariner ballpark is currently called), offers a taste of local culture and a glimpse at the characteristic innovation for which Seattle has become known. Boasting a unique retractable roof, the ballpark keeps an open-air atmosphere that avoids the claustrophobic feel of a dome. With a capacity of 46,621, it was built in 1999 and cost over $500 million dollars in design and construction.
One of the drawbacks of Safeco Field is the amount of noise that penetrates the interior from outside the park. There are train tracks near right field that can create distraction. However, inside the park, baseball fans can enjoy cafes, restaurants and several concession stands. Most of the bleachers are padded, unlike the seating at other Major League ballparks. Plus, because the bleachers are painted green, there's an element of uniformity that's missing in other ballparks.
Safeco Field is best-known for its roof design. Because the weather in Seattle is often overcast, the retractable roof shield players and fans from rain. That being said, many of the seats in left field are still exposed to cold air and wind. So, fans who wish to stay warm should avoid seats in that area.
